Layout Practice 1

Fundamental Skills

In Pictavo you should be able to: [1] place photo boxes, shapes, and text boxes; [2] select and align photo boxes, shapes, and/or text boxes; [3] adjust text spacing, size, font, and style; [4] place photos in photo boxes and adjust the photo size and positioning; [5] places photos so they are not looking away/outwards from the page; [6] group photos by theme, action, timeline, etc., and [7] adjust items size and position by entering exact numbers.

Layout Practice 1: Music

Recreate the music layout in A Life In Progress yearbook. Only after creating the layout, add the pictures. Make sure to adjust them and group them by theme, date, etc.

Storyboard Practice

Storyboard Practice 1: Watch the Frozen video clip and draw the first 12 shots and label their type (medium, close up, extreme wide, extreme close up). No stick figures. Additionally, draw arrows to indicate movement of characters and/or objects. Show the floor line (ie where the floor meets the wall) when appropriate. And indicate camera movement - optional, but it’s good practice.

Switch, Switch

LESSON OUTLINE

Groups switch. Those doing the Por Que? Video are now doing the Puppet Lip Sync Video and vice versa.

5min Reminders of due dates and upcoming events.

15-20min Por Que? Video. Students take turns filming the different film shots (Medium, Close Up, Extreme Close Up, Wide, Extreme Wide, Push, Pull, Tilt, and Pan) while saying, “Por que?” in each shot. Students then edit clips together.

15-20min Puppet Lip Sync. Students practice singing Firework by Katy Perry (30s) together then record performance. Students replace bad audio with clean audio.

10min Students update journals and practice puppet talk by saying their ABCs with their paper hand puppet.

It’s A Class

Yearbook + Multimedia (aka Journalism) is a class that requires a lot from students. Y+M has a steep learning curve and students need to work independently while also coordinating with their team. The key to success is planning, scheduling, and being productive.
