RESOURCES

Make Your Own Quiz Handout

LESSON OUTLINE

5min Students complete the Do Now.

10min Make Your Own Quiz. Students write multiple-choice questions that could show up on the quiz.

10min Teacher demonstrates how to use the maps of South America and Africa to find gold. First mark all the locations where gold was found in South America with a dot. Then group the dots and the South America map. Then move and rotate to line up South America with Africa. (Note: You will have to rotate the map multiple times to get the best fit because the world is 3D and our maps are 2D, so if you line up the top then the bottom won’t line up and vice versa.) Then they will identify which country and city is closest to each dot, using Google maps for reference.

15min Finding Gold. Students use their knowledge of continental drift to locate more probable locations for gold. Don’t forget to rotate and adjust the map for each location.

5min Collect materials. Clean up. Wrap up.
